Central Colorado Mountains

This map is mostly centered north-south along the I70 corridor from Denver to Glenwood Springs. It covers the Tenmile, Mosquito, Sawatch, Elk, and southern Gore Ranges, and the Front Range from Boulder to Colorado Springs. Boulder is at the top of the map and Buena Vista and Crested Butte are at the bottom.

This is a massive trail map. It covers eleven state parks, nine Bureau of Land Management recreation areas, parts of five national forests, and all or part of seventeen wilderness areas. Every recreational site and area is shown: trailheads, picnic areas, campgrounds, fishing access sites, boat launch sites, and alpine and nordic ski areas.

Urban trails (as in neighborhood trails) and most urban bike paths are not shown on the map. Including everything in urban areas at this scale makes the cartography cluttered and messy. Bike paths which connect different towns or different parts of the Denver metro area are shown to highlight the arterial routes.

Like all Basin and Range maps, this combines hypsometric (changes in elevation) coloring and vegetation coloring for a very realistic visualization of the landscape. Nobody else in the mapping world does this.
