This map is specially designed for the people (mostly Madison and Gallatin County people) who have said that they love the South Central Montana map, but just don’t have a place for a five feet wide map. This one is a more manageable 40 inches wide.
This map’s eastern border is just east of Livingston, so it cuts off the northern Absaroka and Beartooth Ranges, as compared to the South Central Montana map. However, it does go a little further north to Copper City, a little further west to Pipestone and Twin Bridges, and a little further south to Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.
All of the trails in the Tobacco Root, Snowcrest, Gravelly, Madison, Gallatin, and southern Bridger Ranges are shown. All of the river access sites on the entire Madison, Gallatin, and Ruby Rivers are shown. Also on the map are the Jefferson River from Twin Bridges to the Missouri Headwaters, and the Yellowstone River from Gardiner to Highway 89 Bridge.
Like all Basin and Range maps, this combines hypsometric (changes in elevation) coloring and vegetation coloring for a very realistic visualization of the landscape. Nobody else in the mapping world does this.
